Canon Pixma TS5020 Driver Download– The cheapest all-in-one printer (AIO) in the new Canon Pixma TS series, the Pixma TS5020 Wireless All-in-One Printer ($ 99.99), is a low-cost, low-volume model for home use. The primary difference between them and the more expensive and feature-rich TS9020 and TS8020 (second choice of editors) is that the TS5020 uses five inks instead of six inks.

Unlike another choice of editors, the Brother MFC-J985DW (Basic Office Level AIO), none of these Pixma printers have automatic document feeders (ADFs), making them less suitable for home office use. Like the TS8020, the TS5020’s text and photo output is very powerful, but some struggled when testing dark fills and backgrounds in Excel charts and PowerPoint flyers. Otherwise, it is a cheap alternative to the TS8020 for low-volume printing of photos and documents for home users.

Design and function
Like the other Pixmas TS series, the TS5020 has three functions – print, scan and copy – and comes in three colors: black (reviewed here), white and brown. However, unlike other TS models, the TS5020 has only one paper input source, a tray that protrudes from the back of the cabinet and holds 100 sheets (or 20 sheets of premium photo paper). In my testing, setting up the Pixma TS5020 was a breeze. The software package consists of Canon’s standard photometric drivers and Pixma programs, including My Image Garden and Quick Menu. The TS5020 excelled in photo printing and averaged 19 seconds when printing 4 x 6-inch images. It was one second faster than the TS9020 and TS8020 and 6 seconds faster than the XP-640. With regard to the print quality of the TS5020 photos (see next section), 19 seconds is fast.

Output quality
In addition to the standard three color inks (cyan, magenta, and yellow), the TS5020 comes with two black inks, one pigment-based and the other dye-based. As already mentioned, both the TS9020 and TS8020 come with sixth, gray ink for printing mainly grayscale photos, although Canon claims that it also enhances color images. As with the TS8020, print quality was generally above average overall. The text was dark and well-shaped, even with small sizes (5 and 6 points). And when I printed photos on premium paper, the results were great and competed with what we saw not only on the six TS inkjet TS models but also on previous MG-Series Pixmas (which the TS series replaces), such as the Pixma MG5720 Wireless Inkjet one.

The graphics looked pretty good too, although I saw dark stripes (a regular pattern of faint stripes) in the dark fills and backgrounds, especially in black. In contrast, the light fills and gradients looked good. The TS5020 would not be the best choice for printing PowerPoint flyers, but there is no doubt about the quality of its photos and text.

Operating costs
Due to the fifth black ink, calculating the exact price per page of the TS5020 is not really feasible, as there is no way to measure when this cartridge will sink. This means that when you use the highest-yield ink tanks, the cost of using four standard cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks is 4.1 cents for black and white pages and 12.7 cents for color printing. So let’s assume that the cost per page is slightly higher for other black inks.

Such high operating costs are not uncommon with photo-centric AIOs like this. The cost per page of the Epson XP-640 is, for example, 4.7 cents for black and 13.7 cents for color and also has a fifth ink (“Photo Black”), which in some scenarios again increases the cost per page, making it impossible to accurately calculate actual operating costs. . However, you don’t have to bear these high ink costs to get good-looking photos. The Canon Pixma TS5020 All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Printer is truly a multifunction printer in that it prints documents, scans and copies, but it’s mostly just a convenience – basically a photo printer. Like its higher-priced siblings, the TS9020 and TS8020, the lack of an automatic document feeder, and high operating costs make it impractical for anything other than small-volume home use. If you need more, consider a machine with lower running costs, such as the Brother MFC-J985DW, but you can’t get close to the TS5020 photo quality anywhere – which is exceptional at a price.
